Let’s face it, everyone wears jeans. From bell bottoms to wide leg, skinny to flared, denim is a wardrobe staple that has been part of our daily uniform since forever. And while it seems like nothing could make the customary “jump-squat-lunge” dance more worth your while than the way a good pair of jeans compliments your booty, it’s about time we discuss the true cost of denim. As much as we hate to hear it, our beloved pair of denim jeans are probably the most resource-heavy and environmentally damaging items in our closet. In fact, a single pair of denim uses up to 1,500 gallons of water, making it one of fashion’s biggest offenders of environmental damage. Thirsty much?

So, here’s the 411 on denim—denim is made from cotton, an extremely water intensive crop that’s typically grown using large amounts of pesticides. On top of this, the manufacturing process of denim uses extreme amounts of energy and chemicals that are harmful to the workers and the environment. But, before you think all hope is lost, we went on the hunt for sustainable jeans that’ll still make your butt reeaaal good. You can thank us later.

We’re totally geeking over Boyish Jeans, a brand that has resurrected our hope for ridiculously good, green denim.

Through a combination of vintage-inspired washes, quality fabric and modern fits, Boyish is cleaning up the industry one pair at a time. Each pair of Boyish jeans are made from sustainable fabrics through a completely environmentally friendly and cruelty-free process. “There are several factors that make our jeans sustainable. The recycled fabrics used along with certified organic cotton, the washing process which uses less water than traditional methods, our non-toxic dyes and lowering our waste overall with a circular approach are just some of the aspects that play a part in making our jeans sustainable. Having an efficient supply chain, being carbon neutral, and working with factories who have fair and safe working conditions also contribute to making our jeans sustainable.”

Boyish has made it a priority to create the most sustainable denim fabric around by blending deadstock fabric with Tencel, a fabric made of sustainable wood pulp from eucalyptus trees that are FSC certified—oh and they’re made for longevity too. We can totally dig it.

Needless to say, there is nothing better than finding a pair of jeans that fits your body in all the right places…except, finding a pair that was created consciously, too! With Boyish, you can strut in your favorite pair of denim guilt free and look good doing it. Your booty deserves some long-lasting goodness.
